Far too often we come to the end of our working day and wonder why we still have so many things left unfinished; maybe you need to sort out your organizational skills at work? Have you noticed that you're constantly missing your deadlines, and it's causing you some friction with workmates, and the people that you're supposed to be completing the projects for? Ok, you may not be able to hang an actual sign up when you're at work, but you can let people know that you have a lot of work to do, some deadlines that you just can't miss, and you'd appreciate not being disturbed during that time. There may be times when you just have to be interrupted, so try to make the distractions last for as short a possible time as you can; the more you break your flow, the less likely you're going to be to get the work done; then you'll miss yet another work deadline.

Some people go into work knowing that they have something that they need to get done, but it's something that they're dreading getting started on; don't let it drag you down. If you don't do it first you'll spend the rest of the day worrying about the fact that you still have it left to come, and that's going to distract you from everything else that you have to do. If this is something that has to be completed so that you make a deadline, then it's even more important to get it out of the way as quickly as possible.

Some of the things that we find ourselves getting bogged down in each day are things that we really don't have to have sucking away our time. If you put everything that needs to be done into the order of when it has to be finished, you're going to find that you start having more time to get those jobs done.

No matter how good you have yourself organized, someone will always find a problem for you to deal with; which will threaten your deadline. The way to get around this is to deal with problems in order of priority; if it's urgent, deal with it there and then; if it's something that can wait until you've finished what you're doing, then politely explain that it's going to have to wait until you're finished, or when you next need to take a break.

You're going to have to find a way of keeping track of everything that needs to be done, and making just as sure that you 'tick off' the items when you've done them. Most people will rely on the good old calendar that they have on their desk, but, if you find yourself out and about most of the time, then getting an app for your smart phone, or some other electronic diary is going to help you out enormously.

When you have an electronic diary - or something similar - you can organize your schedule ahead of time, and have it remind you of where you're supposed to be, or what you're supposed to be doing; assuming you're organized enough to remember to have it with you, of course.
